How Long Do Jumping Spiders Live?
On average, jumping spiders live between 6 months to 2 years in the wild, while in captivity, they can live up to 3 years. The lifespan of jumping spiders can vary depending on factors such as species, temperature, sex and climate. Generally, female jumping spiders tend to live longer than males. A female bold jumping spider (Phidippus audax) was the oldest jumping spider lived for 3 years.
The Life Cycle of a Jumping Spider
There are three stages in the life cycle of a jumping spider: the egg sac, spiderlings and adulthood. Let’s explore these three stages one by one.

Egg Sac
The egg sac marks the initial stage of the jumping spider’s life cycle. During this phase, a pregnant female jumping spider will deposit her eggs into a silk structure known as an egg sac. These sacs are meticulously crafted to protect the eggs from potential threats and typically contain between 50 to 250 eggs, varying by species. The eggs themselves are usually light yellow in color. It takes approximately two weeks for the eggs to hatch, marking the beginning of the next stage in the jumping spider’s life cycle, which is spiderlings.

Spiderlings
Spiderlings represent the juvenile stage of jumping spiders, emerging from their egg sacs as delicate, miniature versions of their adult counterparts. During this stage, they remain dependent on their mother for protection and guidance. Molting, the process of shedding their exoskeleton to accommodate growth, begins at this early stage and continues throughout their development. Jumping spiders undergo multiple molts, typically between five to ten times, before reaching adulthood.

Adulthood
Adulthood marks the stage of full maturity for jumping spiders, where they are fully developed and capable of independent living. At this point, they are also ready for reproduction. From hatching to adulthood, jumping spiders typically require between six to eight months to complete their growth cycle and reach this stage of maturity.
